SDB Therapy

Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the most widely accepted treatment for SDB. A bedside device gently delivers pressurized air via a mask or pillows system. This pressure acts like an “air splint” to keep the upper airway open thereby preventing obstructive apneas.

CPAP treatment does not involve drugs or surgery and helps hundreds of thousands of people worldwide, enjoy a healthier sleep and a healthier life.

Treatment of SDB with CPAP therapy is important in type 2 diabetic patients to improve both chronic conditions. CPAP treatment should result in:

  • Significant improvements in Insulin Sensitivity after just 48 hours of CPAP therapy23
  • A fall in mean systemic blood pressure of up to 10mmHg24

Many patients experience the benefits quickly - often after the first night of use.

Next steps

  1. Test your type 2 diabetic patients for OSA
  2. Initiate treatment or refer to a Sleep Specialist for further investigation
